چکیده

Tomographic phase microscopy is a laser interferometry technique in which a 3D refractive index map of a biological sample is constructed from quantitative phase images collected at a set of illumination angles. Although the resulting tomographic images provide valuable information, their resolution declines at axial distances beyond about 1 microm from the focal plane. We describe an improved 3D reconstruction algorithm in which the field at the focal plane is numerically propagated to depths throughout the sample. Diffraction is thus incorporated, extending the depth of focus to more than 10 mum. Tomograms with improved focal depth are demonstrated for single HT29 cells.

Velocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method

In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...

Numerical model for tomographic image formation in transmission x-ray microscopy.

We present a numerical image-formation model for investigating the influence of partial coherence, sample thickness and depth-of-focus on the accuracy of tomographic reconstructions in transmission x-ray microscopes. The model combines wave propagation through the object by finite difference techniques with Fourier methods. We include a ray-tracing model to analyse the origin of detrimental str...

Four-Dimensional Morphological Evolution of an Aluminum Silicon Alloy Using Propagation-Based Phase Contrast X-ray Tomographic Microscopy

Four-dimensional propagation-based phase contrast X-ray tomographic microscopy experiments were performed on an Aluminum29.9mass% Silicon alloy during coarsening. Using propagation-based phase contrast, changes in the three-dimensional morphology of primary silicon particles were captured and the resulting evolution of the microstructure is discussed. While morphologies at earlier times are com...

Parallel implementation of underwater acoustic wave propagation using beamtracing method on graphical processing unit

The mathematical modeling of the acoustic wave propagation in seawater is the basis for realizing goals such as, underwater communication, seabed mapping, advanced fishing, oil and gas exploration, marine meteorology, positioning and explore the unknown targets within the water. However, due to the existence of various physical phenomena in the water environment and the various conditions gover...

Novel multifocus tomography for measurement of microstructured and multicore optical fibers

A novel multifocus tomographic algorithm for reconstructing an optical fiber’s cross sectional refractive index distribution from transverse projections is described. This new algorithm is validated against measurements of both microstructured and multicore optical fibers, which were not previously measurable. Optical fiber tomographic measurements recently made by several research groups using...
